Antibacterial Resistance, biofilms and infection control: assessment of antibacterial activity of synthetic and natural molecules

Antibacterial-resistant bacteria remain a major global threat and a growing public health concern. In the continuing fight against the hidden ‘pandemic’ antibacterial resistance, the One Health approach is also gradually becoming the most used and encouraged strategy. The aim of this research line is to carry out epidemiological studies to monitor this phenomenon and analyse the trend in the animal ecosystem of domestic, wild, exotic mammals, reptiles and birds, and in their terrestrial and aquatic environment. The microbiota community associated to microplastics, the ESKAPE bacteria and other zoonotic microorganisms are investigated and identified by proteomic science using the mass spectrometry technology (MALDI TOF), they are in-vitro evaluated for biofilm production and monitored about their susceptibility towards synthetic antibiotic and new natural alternative molecules, such as ozone, hemocomponents for non-trasfusional use. Studies of Meta-analysis are carried out as a secondary research tool for evidence-based practice in the health sciences.
