Prebiotic effects of plant extracts and bioactive compounds on gut and skin human microbiota
The research aims to identify and characterize novel prebiotic compounds suitable also for design synbiotic combinations. Possible postbiotics products derived from synbiotic culture are also under investigation as alternative approach. Fruits and plant extracts and their active compounds are used to study their antimicrobial or prebiotic and synbiotic activities, on single probiotic bacterial species and on complex skin or gut human microbiota. The formulated synbiotic, prebiotic or postbiotic mixtures will be further studied using batch culture fermentation system and continuous culture fermentation system. This will contribute to evaluate the impact of these active compounds (ingredients, extracts, or whole food) on human health and well-being
