Sustainable management of coastal areas, valorization and promotion of marine resources


Research programme is mainly focused on the sustainable management of coastal areas, including Marine Protected Areas, coastal fisheries and aquaculture activities.
Research activities are carried out through studies on:
- ecological, economic and social aspects of acquaculture, professional and recreational fishing also through an "omnic" approach;
-sustainability and diversification of fishing activity, including small artisanal fishing,also through valorisation and promotion of production in order to optimise the impact of activities on ecosystems and fish stocks;
-monitoring and management of fishing activities, also in protected marine protected areas, with regard to the recovery of juvenile species of commercial or ecological interest.
-relationship between environmental quality and the quality and safety of marine organisms, especially those of commercial interest,
- drafting of thematic maps on fishing activities
-cultural, environmental and natural heritage of the harbour and coastal areas.
Particular attention is given to comunication and dissemination aspects of the research in order to increase the visibiliy of projects and their results to all stackeolders and contribute to an overall increase in the project’s impact on communities.
The research activities are linked to postgraduate courses on management of coastal areas and resources and coastal emergency management
